Exclusive IT Network Service for New York University School of Engineering Residents
EHS brings the school’s resources directly to students living off-campus with EHS
BROOKLYN, NY (January 31, 2014): Educational Housing Services, Inc. (EHS), the leading provider of private, off-campus student housing in New York City, today unveils a new and exclusive IT network service for all New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering students residing at the EHS St. George Residence in Brooklyn Heights, NY. EHS has created a direct and dedicated IT network connection between the school’s main building at 6 Metro Tech in Downtown Brooklyn and EHS's St. George Residence that will allow these student residents to enjoy the exact same network experience, whether at the School of Engineering or in the comfort of their EHS residence.
EHS President and CEO Jeffrey H. Lynford and NYU School of Engineering President and Dean Dr. Katepalli R. Sreenivasan launched the network during a ceremony at 9am this morning, January 31, 2014, at the EHS St. George Residence.
"In a sense, we are bringing these student residents their campus, but without the commute. We are proud to be in a partnership with the NYU School of Engineering, and just as with any of our partner schools, we strive to find ways to satisfy their unique needs and enhance the experience of their students living at EHS," says Lynford.
Sreenivasan adds, " EHS listened to what our students needed and created a solution. EHS is truly distinct in its eagerness to go above and beyond for its partner schools, and I greatly appreciate its proactive approach in meeting the students' needs."
Using a Point to Point connection (via a fiber optics link), and a VLAN environment within the EHS network, EHS is distributing the school’s network signal via Ethernet network. This access is exclusive to the rooms of NYU School of Engineering students living at EHS. Being a private, closed network only accessible to these students and controlled by the NYU School of Engineering’s IT department adds extra layers of safety for students using it.
