Marymount

You are about to join your fellow EHS residents in one of the world’s greatest hubs of culture and creativity; leading to lasting memories and friendships.

Room Information

Units are apartment-size suites. Each suite has 2 bedrooms to be shared with 3-4 residents.

Each resident is provided with a regular twin-size bed and mattress, a dresser, closet/wardrobe and a desk with a chair. Beds are lofted, bunked or mid-height. Bed configurations are permanent and cannot be removed or reconfigured. Some rooms have extra furniture and it cannot be removed, but you can use it for additional storage or for a visitor.

Each bedroom has an AC unit.

Each suite has a bathroom to be shared with roommates/suitemates. There is also a kitchenette which contains a microwave, two electric stove top burners, large refrigerator, and a small kitchen table and chairs.

Large Double Rooms have four sets of furniture although we only place 2 residents per bedroom. If there is extra furniture in your room, it cannot be removed.

Single Rooms are bunk style with twin sized beds and one set of extra furniture that cannot be reconfigured or removed.

Lofted beds are raised high with a ladder provided. A dresser, desk, and desk chair are underneath the bed for efficient use of space. Furniture configurations are permanent and cannot be changed.

Bunked beds are two beds that are stacked, one above the other. There are two dressers underneath the lower bed. A ladder is provided for the high bed. Furniture configurations are permanent and cannot be changed.

Residents living in a lofted or bunked room are not permitted to unloft their furniture. EHS will deny any request for removal, unlofting or rearrangement of furniture.

We are unable to provide your room number until you arrive. If you have a specific roommate request, please make sure to let us know several weeks in advance of your move-in date. We do our best to accommodate requests when possible.

EHS assigns residents to one of three types of rooms, female, male, neutral. Gender specific rooms (female, male) are assigned to residents whose gender identity aligns with the gender of that room and who wish to live in a single gender room. In alignment with the values and law in NYC, these assignments are made based on a resident’s gender identity, regardless of sex assigned at birth, gender expression, medical history or gender on identification cards. EHS does not segregate floors by gender. We want students of all genders to feel comfortable living in our community.

EHS is pleased to offer inclusive housing referred to as "gender neutral" housing. Inclusive housing allows residents to reside with other residents regardless of gender identity, sex or gender expression. By selecting this room type, residents commit to living in a room/suite occupied by other residents who also prefer inclusive housing and whose gender identity may or may not match their own.

Should a vacancy arise within a gender neutral room/suite, this space will be filled by any applicant that has a gender neutral selection, whether or not the current residents know the applicant. Applicants who select the gender neutral room type should therefore be willing to live with any other resident who is participating in inclusive housing.

EHS discourages residents who are in a romantic relationship – regardless of sex, gender, gender identity or gender expression – to live together in apartments or rooms shared with other residents. Residents in romantic relationships may apply to live together in any apartment or room type that is not shared with additional residents and must each identify their intended roommate(s) upon booking and complete a Mixed Gender Form with their Housing Advisor.

In the event of roommate issues between residents in a romantic relationship, residents may be required to relocate, if availability permits.

Other factors used in matching roommates such as age, sleep schedule and smoking preference are still considered when making assignments within each of these room types.

Regarding roommate and suitemate assignments, unfortunately, we do not provide any information ahead of time because there are a series of things that could happen which would cause changes to assignments. At times, students make last minute requests for specific roommates, change room types, change EHS residences, etc. If you have any special requests, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Residents selecting to live in a double/triple occupancy room are agreeing to the ‘Family Unit’ approach to room occupancy. Residents in this arrangement agree to share the responsibility of keeping their room clean and free of any damage and abiding by all EHS Policies listed in the Residence Code of Conduct.

Please remember double/triple occupancy rooms are intended for two/three residents, respectively. When a vacancy becomes available in a shared space, a new roommate will be assigned accordingly. If you are in a shared room that has a vacancy or if you are scheduled to vacate a fully occupied room, please be aware that we may show your room to prospective residents. We will always knock and announce ourselves before entering to tour the room. You are only permitted to occupy your side of the room, at all times. We will make every effort to give you at least a 24-hour notice prior to a new roommate’s arrival.

Residents living in a single occupancy room are fully responsible for their room and by abiding by all EHS Policies listed in the Residence Code of Conduct, as this applies to all residents.

Getting Settled

Once you move your belongings into your new room, please discard any garbage and boxes in the trash bins on every floor. Garbage bags should be discarded in trash bins, boxes and large items should be broken down and left inside the recycle area on every floor. After the first week of move in, all garbage bags should be discarded in the trash chute. Please return moving carts back to the Security Desk for other residents to use.

While in your room, please check that your kitchen appliances, bathroom, AC, etc. are working and note any issues you might see on the Room Condition Report. While we do not foresee any problems with your room, we might have missed something and it is important for you to report it upon your move in.

During the first week of the semester, there will be several opportunities to meet your neighbors and the Student Life Staff. In addition, you will learn a lot about the building, the neighborhood and all of the events that will be offered during your stay.
